Dr. Acton Is Focused On Making The Lives of Ohioans Better
Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga released the following statement on Dr. Amy Acton's campaign to be the next Governor of Ohio:
The Ohio Republican Party (ORP) recently put out an attack piece on Dr. Amy Acton, backed by the Ramaswamy campaign, that is all too familiar for a party that’s void of ideas to help working families and simply relies on its familiar tactics of fear and misinformation. Dr. Acton, unlike Mr. Ramaswamy, has begun to discuss her plans as Governor to help Ohioans struggling to pay the bills and get ahead, and this is where the ORP has begun their campaign of distortions.
At its core, leadership—especially at the level of governor—requires vision, resilience, empathy and ability to communicate. Dr. Acton brings those qualities, along with a clear commitment to addressing the real challenges facing Ohioans. Her priorities as the ORP points out, include subsidizing the cost of childcare, strengthening public education, reducing the burden of healthcare debt, and restoring funding for local governments that support first responders and essential services. These are practical, people-focused policies that align with the needs of working families.
It’s no surprise that the Ohio labor federation unanimously endorsed her. These priorities reflect the same values unions and working Ohioans advocate for every day—economic fairness, access to essential services, and opportunity for all.
In contrast, Ramaswamy’s stated priorities focus not on addressing the rising cost of living and economic inequality but on policies that benefit the wealthy and deepen divisions. His positions include expanding tax breaks for the richest amongst us, redirecting more public funds to private education, limiting workers’ rights, ending public sector unions, closing public colleges and universities, and labeling foundational programs like Medicare and Medicaid a mistake.
Ultimately, elections come down to values and priorities. When voters take the time to examine each candidate’s positions and their real-world impact, the distinction becomes clear. For those who believe in strengthening support for working families and building a more equitable Ohio, Dr. Acton represents that path forward.
