Libbey Glass Strike Ends As Final Local Union Ratifies Contract
The months-long labor dispute at Libbey Glass has officially come to an end.
Members of United Steelworkers Local 700T, the final remaining local without a deal, voted Tuesday to ratify a new contract with the company.
The vote comes after ratifications from USW Local 59M on Sunday night, as well as USW Local 65T and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1257 earlier this year.
The Locals 59M and 700T contracts last until October 2029, according to USW spokesperson Teresa Cassady.
Because of a no-cross agreement between the locals, Local 59M was reliant on Local 700T to approve the contract before going back to work. Cassady said employees from both locals will return to work by Monday.
"I've bargained a few contracts in my career, and this one is probably one that I will never forget for many reasons, " Cassady told WTOL 11 Tuesday night. "I've formed a relationship with those members. I've watched them. They're rollercoasters of emotions from the day the strike started until tonight."
