Rest in Power, Brother Dan Shirey

Daniel Lee Shirey, 48 of Otway, Passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024. He was born April 23, 1976 in Portsmouth to Samuel Andrew and Thelma Ruth Richard Shirey.

Dan was a 1994 graduate of Northwest High School where he was class President. He was a member of IBEW 575 Fighting 4th District since 1996. He served on the executive board for 575, IBEW Referral Agent until he was elected business manager. He was a member of the Shawnee Labor Council, he was the Electrical Inspector for the City of Portsmouth since 2013, he was on the IBEW Executive Board of the 575 since 2006, a member of the IBEW International Executive Council of the 3rd District, Secretary, Treasurer of the Apprenticeship Program, IBEW Trustee for Health and Welfare Pension, President of the South East Ohio Business manager Association, President of the Ohio State IBEW Conference, Trustee of the 4th District Health Fund, a member of the Red Cross Board and the Otway Volunteer Fire Department.

"Brother Shirey was a proud IBEW member and a first-class trade unionist," said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. "He spent his career fighting for the entire working class in Southern Ohio, spending each day working to create good-paying jobs to make the lives of his members and all working people better."

Along with his parents, Dan is survived by two sons, Daniel Lee Shirey II, Dakota Levi Shirey (Ty Pietz), a daughter Kaela Danae Shirey (Dalton Taylor), a brother, Steven Andrew Shirey (Sarah Ginn), 4 grandchildren: Kynlee, Colton, Lucas and Emilee, a niece, Courtney (Ryan) Proffitt, nephew Justin Shirey and great niece Aubrey Proffitt and another one on the way.
