Union Members Step Up And Win 2025 Local Elections
Here in Ohio, candidates, including many union members, that stood up for working people and the Constitution won in overwhelming numbers. Here are some highlights of Path to Power victories across the state:
In Ohio, the Central Labor Councils endorsed hundreds of candidates, including over 50 union members and their spouses, at every level of local government.
Mark Weber, a 38-year IBEW Local 8 member, was elected Mayor of Perrysburg in Wood County. Brother Weber is committed to ensuring Perrysburg builds with skilled and trained union members and to support public employees and first responders.
Former UAW and AFSCME staffer Brian Rothenberg was elected to serve as Norwich Township Trustee with his campaign of supporting first responders and governing with transparency.
Teamser member Matt Ford was the top vote getter for Nordonia School Board in Summit County, while Camille Peterson (CWA) and Chelsea Alkire (OEA) overcame an extremist campaign that included AI-generated fake ads to win their election to South Western School Board.
Other notable victories: Joe Cole (OEA) elected to Canton City Council at Large, Brian Poindexter (Ironworkers) re-elected to Brook Park City Council at Large, Mary Ellen Hemann (SEIU) as Rocky River Clerk of Courts, Joe Kostic (USW) as Sandy Township Trustee, Chad Gluss (OAPFF) as mayor of Olmsted Falls, and Kathy Parker-Jones (OEA) to Hilliard City Council.
"On behalf of union families across Ohio, the state federation is proud of every union member that stepped up to run for office," said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. "All Path to Power candidates, regardless of the outcome, helped move the ball forward for working people across Ohio."
