Amy Acton’s Property Tax Relief Plan Calls For New Rebates, More School Funding
Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton is calling for several reforms to lower Ohioans’ property-tax bills, including expanding tax breaks for elderly and disabled homeowners, offering rebates for steep tax increases, increasing safeguards for tax-lien sales and increasing school funding.
Acton’s plan, released Monday, expands on her vow earlier this year to seek “immediate property tax relief” for Ohioans, saying the Republican-led legislature hasn’t done enough to help homeowners whose tax bills have surged following recent property reappraisals.
“I am laser-focused on lowering costs for Ohioans, including through property tax relief. Through my Property Tax Relief Plan, I will expand the Homestead Exemption to protect more Ohio seniors; put more money in Ohioans’ pockets with a property tax spike rebate; crack down on predatory collection practices to protect taxpayers; and push to finally fully implement the Bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan to fund our public schools and remove this burden from property taxpayers,” said Dr. Amy Acton. “It’s time we finally deliver meaningful relief to Ohio families and seniors.”
Acton is calling for four major initiatives aimed at reducing homeowners’ tax burdens, protecting delinquent taxpayers and shifting more school-funding costs away from local property owners.
