Columbus Metropolitan Library Staff Votes To Unionize
Staff at Columbus Metropolitan Library, the state's third-most-visited library system, voted in favor of unionizing this week, according to the Ohio Federation of Teachers.
Ballot results from Ohio's State Employment Relations Board showed that 86% of staff voted to form CML United.
OFT says the new union includes around 600 librarians, customer services specialists, youth engagement specialists, materials services associates, drivers, sorters and other library workers.
"We stood together, across different branches and different job titles, because we know that CML is a stronger library system for our communities when workers have a voice," CML United shared on social media Tuesday.
Columbus now joins five other central Ohio library systems that have voted to unionize since 2021, including Worthington Libraries, Grandview Heights Public Library, Pickerington Public Library, Upper Arlington Public Library and Delaware County District Library.
