Ohio Governor Candidate Dr. Amy Acton Shows Support For USW Local 3057 At ArcelorMittal

Ohio Governor candidate Dr. Amy Acton stopped by Shelby on Thursday afternoon to join the picket line with USW Local 3057 in their ongoing strike at ArcelorMittal.

USW Local 3057 has been on strike at ArcelorMittal since January 13, marking the longest strike for this union. Acton was welcomed on Thursday by President of USW Local 3057 Norm Shoemaker and many other members of the union.

“Thank you all for having me. This is an amazing amount of community support, this is one of the most positive things I have seen out here. I’ve always had to work with both sides to solve the issues we are facing. I want to tell you that most of what I’m hearing from Ohioans isn’t partisan it is really ordinary stuff like our public schools, our healthcare, our child care, and being able to afford a house. I’m a person that will work with anyone who wants to solve problems instead of make them,” Acton said.

USW Staff Representative Steve Ackerman explained in a previous Shelby Daily Globe article that workers are not being paid and the insurance benefits stopped on January 31.
