Thousands of Working People Celebrate Labor Day Across Ohio

Across Ohio, thousands of working people joined together in solidarity to celebrate Labor Day. AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler joined union members on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Labor Secretary Marty Walsh also came to Ohio as he and President Shuler threw out the first pitch at the Cincinnati Reds game.

Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga spoke at the Lorain Labor Day Festival while Ohio AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer spoke in Mansfield. Events occurred in Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Cincinnati, Mansfield, Portsmouth, Barberton (Akron), Youngstown , Lorain and Newark.

Unions celebrated the day with the knowledge that public approval for organized labor is at its highest since 1965 with 71% of the respondents in the latest Gallup poll on our side.

"We are seeing an incredible rise in working people waking up and saying, 'We deserve better,'" said Shuler on Good Morning America. "Workers are coming through the pandemic saying, 'We want more.' And that is why for the first time in a long time workers in every sector of our economy are not standing by. They are ready to rise up and make their voices heard and seek the change they want in their workplaces by looking to unions."

We appreciate all the workers who were on the job this Labor Day weekend keeping us safe and moving our country and local communities forward.
