Working People Joined Together To Celebrate Labor Day

Across Ohio, thousands of union members and their families joined labor-sponsored Labor Day celebrations. From minor league baseball games to picnics to parades, Ohio celebrated the labor movement and the hard working Ohioans who make our state a great place to live, work and raise families.

The weekend kicked off Friday night as thousands of union families filled Credit Union 717 Stadium in Akron for Labor Night with the Rubber Ducks where the credit union raffled off a new Dodge Ram to someone in attendance.

Saturday was owned by Southern Ohio as parades in Marietta and Portsmouth occurred while former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg joined Dr. Amy Acton in Cincinnati for the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic.

Sunday, Sherrod Brown highlighted Lorain AFL-CIO LaborFest where families enjoyed kids activities, live music, raffles and solidarity.

On Labor Day featured parades in Toledo, Lima, Newark, Mansfield, Cleveland and Barberton.

During his speech in Cincinnati, Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga summed up what Labor Day is about: "This time each year, we come together to remind this country: Labor Day is our day. It belongs to all working people. And this Labor Day, here in Ohio and around the country, we’re going to make sure all of America knows what we stand for: freedom, fairness, and security for working people.
