Burga, Cropper Reelected to Ohio AFL-CIO Leadership

Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga and Secretary-Treasurer Melissa Cropper were reelected to their positions at the 35th Biennial Convention of the labor federation today in Columbus. Delegates to the convention from all over Ohio unanimously voted to re-elect the pair to another four year term in leading the largest labor organization in the state.

“It is a true honor to serve as this organization’s president and I am humbled by the faith that our convention delegates have shown in me today,” Burga said. “The labor movement in Ohio is in a strong position to have a massive influence on the issues that matter the most to people who work for a living and I intend to fight everyday for economic and social justice that will improve the lives of all Ohioans,” he said.

“The Ohio AFL-CIO has been such a force for good for working people in every corner of the state,” said Cropper. “We still have much work to do, and I’m honored to be able to do that alongside my partner President Burga and all of my union family,” she said.

Burga, who has led the Ohio AFL-CIO as its president since 2011, is a third-generation member of the United Steelworkers and grandson of a union coal miner. Cropper has served as Ohio AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer since 2019 and is the president of the Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT), which represents 20,000 members in 65 local unions across the state. The Ohio AFL-CIO represents over a million union workers and retirees from 45 international unions in the public, private and federal sectors of employment.
